Cheers - by Rand

A haughty nasal
British accent
clipped
the beginning
and flattened
the vowel
resulting in
years of my
younger brother
clinking my
juice cup
and uttering
"Jaws."

  1. Why is it
That the single thing I hear
    Above all else--
    Above the raucous, boisterous,
    Many-voiced, rumbling,
    Soul-shattering, bone-shaking sound--
    Is your silence,
    Cold as stone,
    And devoid of consideration?
    While others encourage me on,
    See me in golden glory,
All I can feel is a terrible,
    Crippling, festering wound
    That let's me know I haven't achieved
All I set out to do.
    I'd play the Martyr
If I thought it would do
    Your heart any good.
