Rand Bellavia is the Director of the Library at D'Youville College in Buffalo, New York. For many years he taught Essentials of Poetry, a "poetry for physicists" style poetry appreciation course for the D'Youville English Department.
From 1989-1991, he edited and published four issues of the poetry journal The Lanthorn. In 1991, he also edited Let the Eye Fall Through: The Selected Poems of William T. Allen.
Rand spent a year teaching creative writing at the MonDay Community Correctional Facility in Dayton, Ohio. He edited a collection of prison writings called Inside Looking Out, which was published by the state of Ohio and used throughout the state as a reading textbook for adult learners.
In his other life, Rand is the singer, songwriter, guitarer, tromboner for the nerd-rock/filk bands Ookla the Mok and Via Bella. In 2021 he released the album The Tips of My Fingers, an album of instapoems set to music.
