En Passant - by Rand

You caught
my eye
as you
went by

But you
passed
quickly
and were
gone

Leaving
me to
occupy
the space
where you
once were

  1. It was fleeting
    Like the golden glow of summer
    Before the autumn's chill
    It was fleeting
    That Mona Lisa smile you tossed at me
    Though I can feel it still.

  2. Both of small standing,
    Minuscule stature;
    Both so tiny
    Yet horridly vital
    By simple sacrifice
    Or mere diversion;
    Glaring head to head
    Of opposite standing
    On wheel and board,
    Meaning and depth.
    Only way to move
    Only way to win.
    Checkmate.
